Seals for construction machinery are critical components used to prevent the leakage of liquids and gases and to block the entry of external contaminants. They are widely used in equipment such as excavators, loaders, bulldozers, and cranes. Although typically small in size, seals have a direct impact on the proper functioning of the equipment; issues such as aging, wear, or damage can lead to problems like oil leakage or dust ingress.

 

Based on their application and mode of operation, construction machinery seals are categorized into two main types: static seals and dynamic seals. Static seals are primarily used between stationary components-such as pipe fittings, valve bodies, and flanges-while dynamic seals are employed in areas requiring relative motion, such as piston rods and rotating shafts. Common sealing products include O-rings, oil seals, dust seals, hydraulic cylinder seals, and composite seals.

 

Seal materials are selected based on specific operating environments; common materials include nitrile rubber, fluoroelastomer (FKM), polyurethane, and polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE). Since different materials offer varying characteristics regarding oil resistance, wear resistance, and temperature tolerance, selecting a seal requires considering factors beyond just dimensions-such as operating pressure, temperature, the medium involved, and movement speed.
